My name is Daniele Salvini, I am a videomaker.
Documentarist,
filmmaker,
Video Journalist,
VJ,
video specialist,
video operator and editor.
My area of interest covers migrations, linguistic and digital civil rights.
I am born in Milano, Italy and I live in New York since 1998.
When I decided to work as a filmmaker to become independent and afford the materials to produce my video I worked as a wedding
videographer. I started with a miniDV camera
Sony VX 1000
and a non-linear editing system called
Avid Cinema
running on a Macintosh Performa 6400.
Right now I work with a Sony HVR-V1 HD and Final Cut Pro.
I made several documentaries :
(being) Strangers
Stranieri (si diventa)
the stories of Italian immigrants in Europe,
Presented at the Fano Film Festival in 1998.
Then in New York we filmed
ItaloItaliani:
Exploring the new generation of Italian immigrants, who differ from
their predecessors in motivations, problems and ambitions, it gives
special attention to the linguistic phenomenon as if it were the story
of one told by the voices of many.
In 2003 I made The Sunlight Dragged Me Here,
a documentary about the politics of control post 9/11 with attention on the
propaganda phenomena, featuring an interview with Noam Chomsky.
In 2001 I started to work as a videojournalist, with the
reportage Groundzero for the former Sole 24 ore TV
about solidarity in NYC after the 9/11. Then I worked with the redaction of
the Italian national TV broadcast La7 shooting and editing news features from New
York. In 2002 the collaboration with La7 sparkled in the making of the long reportage
Manhattan Amore Mio.
In 2005 in Italy I stayed as a videojournalist into the TV redaction of MT Channel News,
Science news for Sky satellite.
In 2006 I shoot red carpets interviews at the Tribeca Film Festival and did
a few junkets
for Sky Cine News, Woody Allen's one amongst them.
In 2007 I wrote and direct a short film horror-comedy for Sky Cinema satellite: Diario di un killer telefonico
(with English subtitles).
In 2008 I started a documentary of the Pier Paolo Pasolini's legacy as seen
from New York, now (and forever) in the finalization climax.
Found In Translation
is a documentary on the topic of linguistics realized
during the 2008 Italian Language Week in collaboration with the Italian Cultural
Institute of New York (English subtitles).
I write (in Italian) about digital civil rights and I get
also published by
Nova, the science weekly insert of
Sole 24 Ore Newspaper.
I hosted with other radio fellows the radio show
Va a ciapà i mouse
aired since 2002 on
Popolare Netwok Milano.
From 2008 to 2012 my video activities are logged on the
